The Inconsistant Blogger

I think this photo will be the cover of the DVD for the first season of our TV show. We look so "One Tree Hill"ish or something. The result of our latest escapade through San Diego. This trip on a VERY hot Sunday landed us in Balboa Park. The same day as Earth Day celebration. Yup. Crowded as all complete with hippies and half-naked children bathing in the water features. But still fun! Ry, Chris, Jordan and I now all have cameras, yay for photo-swapping time! Our first stop (well Ry and I's) was ice cream! Baskin Robbins is in pink bubblegum season and I'm ecstatic! Next step was the museum were I returned my staff shirt (after not being employed there for 2 months!). Best part was the tie-dye shirt "vender", barefoot and dancing underneath a tree. Needless to say, many more photo adventures are to come. Next stop SJC!

Why I love the Snow (and other tales from the week of the New Year)

SNOW DAY! I am so glad the rest of the car decided to get out when I suggested we pull over. Jordan was hesitant and of course threatened if any of us should throw a snowball her direction. Yeah, she got hit with one. But the funtivities (yeah its a word!) didn't stop. Many picture opportunities were seized, including laying on my back in the snow. This resulted in a very numb lower back. Upon reaching Julian, we realized most the shops we wanted to see *cough Cider Mill* were closed. But the Candy Basket brought some wonderful treats! And free fudge :) As well as the best picture spot a girl could ask for (right next to the "Pistols and Petticoats" sign).
In conclusion, this drive began truly as the search for the Julian Subway (which we concluded is no longer there) and ended with the sighting of the Ramona Subway, and Jordan's tummy was happy.

The following day was spent not in the snow, but the ER. Seeing as I suffered a head injury a few days before, and my nausea had not gone away, I figured it was time to get it checked. After getting lost on the way to an 11 story UCSD medical center in the middle of Hillcrest (blame it on Yahoo maps), I sat in a waiting room for far too long, kept company by my wonderful boyfriend, along with the other patients, a man who was rolling his own cigarettes in the corner and a woman who's purse cockle-doodle do-ed. No pictures of this, unfortunately (right, like I would let a camera in while I lay with a head injury in an ER bed), but the day, in all its waiting glory, turned out some pretty interesting stories. Like my male (?) nurse and the guy across the hall yelling profanities at the TV. Did I mention it was the day of the Chargers v. Broncos game? All in all, conclusion here, after a head CT, is that I had a mild concussion and slight swelling in the area of my injury (above my right eye) causing nausea and headaches (which is why the Charger game wasn't on in my room).

The work part: Upon calling in sick the morning I went in to ER, I was reminded several times how its my responsibility to find someone to cover my shift. Might I mention I called in at 8:30 that morning, ONE hour before my shift. And that had I known I was headed to the ER the day before, I would have gotten the shift covered. But getting a call from my manager 2 hours after I had left her a message, asking where I was, did not turn out so well. After telling her I was in the ER, she continued to remind me how I need to get my shift covered. The icing on this wonderful fruitcake? I got an e-mail from the assistant manager a day later saying that the manager believed there was some miscommunication in how calling in sick (or ER bed-ridden apparently) has to be handled. Conclusion here... anyone hiring?

Mystery Sock

Yes, I realize that this picture is from season 1, but you must never forget the foundations. In case you haven't guessed, "Heroes" starts September 22. This isn't just a tribute to graphic novels turned hit television series, but to the once again impeding time of year that brings us pilots. Most watched in this house of course will be "The Ex List". So here's to you, writers and new shows. And of course, tracing back to our roots, pre-English speaking Hiro.

Umemployed no more

As the gap in the time since I have last written may tell you, I got a job. I am now a cooperate trainer at a San Diego Marketing Firm. Our campaign is AT&T. Seeing as my cell is Verizon and my cable/internet is Cox, this is very ironic. Eh. Basically I go door to door, but it is a management training program, so the majority of the job is focused on training and being trained. As any job, starting was slow, but I got promoted to leader after 12 days and its been good. Irony continues as the first person I was asked to train decided to quit. lol On top of the new job, I interviewed for the part of Ms. Frizzle at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Yup! I get a frizzy red wig and spend time in elementary school assemblies for the first time in 12 years. Its going to be... LEGENDARY!

The Hunt for the Perfect Job

Steps to a new job...
1. Apply (mostly online now-a-days)
2. Create a resume (which is also online, coincidentally)
3. Send resume out to millions of employers (thank you cut and paste!)
4. Waaaiiiitttt for the calls
5. Schedule the interview
6. Find silly looking clothes that somehow make people take you seriously (see example on left)
7. Yahoo maps the address (yes, I abhor google maps!)
8. Put on a smile and show them you're the best for the job

Yes, I am on the job hunt. A trivial time in one's life. Sending millions of people your contact in hopes that one of them will call back. Then there is my unusual predicament, getting called back over and over by the same company who really wants to hire me but for some reason, I can't get find myself becoming passionate about financial advising. It is also a different experience to look for a job when you have a degree. Its no longer walk into Target and ask for an application. One big question is then left unanswered... If a job requires 2 years of experience in their field, how in the world are you supposed to get experience if everyone wants experience to hire!? Anyone??

Let's pack up and move to California...

Old Town

Midway

Hyatt Hotel

Seaport Village

And thus went our day as we played tourists for a day in the beautiful sunny San Diego.
Who: Jordan, Aaron, New Ryan, Ryan and I
What: Sight-seeing
When: Saturday, August 9th 2008
Where: The San Diego coast
Why: Jordan and I just got new cameras, which inspires photo taking, which inspires traveling, which inspires getting out of the house on a Saturday instead of watching the Olympics, which inspires inviting friends, which inspires... ok I'm done! But we did have so pretty awesome pictures. And discovered some things I never knew were in San Diego. Ok one thing, but who knew there was a monument to Bob Hope along the coast!?

Yeah well there it is! Due to this new, AMAZING Canon Rebel XT, I am sure many more days in San Diego will be spent touring the city. We didn't even make it to Cabrillo National Monument! More to come...

Once a Banshee...

The years of Banshee-hood. Well Friday will mark the official end of another summer at Indian Hills. They say every summer is different, and so far I believe it! Team Staff Counseling was unlike anything else I had ever done, in a good way! Team staff is one of those things I remember being so sad when it was over and didn't think I could ever be one again. Granted the counselor end is a bit more responsible, being in that position again was the best thing ever! Allow me to provide a list of some of the "norm" as a TSC...
- Captain Planet dances
- Black and pink are back!
- Pink tights and "Sweatin' to the Oldies"
- POMEGRANATE!
- Bear chasers
- Bathroom cleaning experts
Just a couple of things that make my job, the best on camp!
